Fall ’10 Shoes Preview: What Were They Thinking?

Balenciaga--Let's Play Tetris.

Balenciaga–Let’s Play Tetris.

“What was your inspiration for this collection?” A required question that the designers are asked each season.  After the Fall’10 Fashion Week, I think they should be asked the same question about the footwear they put onto the models.  The shoes, have been getting just as much attention as the clothes being showed on the runways. For some of the designers, the reaction from viewers would be the tilting of the head and a raised eyebrow.

This past week the Parisian designers outdid themselves.  I had to wonder what they were thinking and mumbled that notorious question under my breathe. Unfortunately each of the following designers were not available to answer me and my imagination started to run wild!

It's So Hard To Say Goodbye.

Fall is creeping behind summer, and pretty soon we’ll have to start wearing more clothes besides the summer dresses and strappy sandals we  love so much.

For Fall, some designers are making the transition process a bit easier ,by keeping the details used for the spring/summer pieces and incorporating them into the must-haves for next season.

Studs, Fringe, Braided Leather and Suede, are some of the details that will be here for the cold months ahead.  See what some designers came up with to make us happy ladies for Fall/Winter!

Kate, Rip it Off.

Who would put Band-Aids on Kate Moss if she was hurt?  Cédric Rivrain is his name, combining beauty and anatomical studies is game.  The son of a doctor, this illustrator uses bandages as ornaments, jewelry or as a garments in his sketches.

Most of his art feature models like Kate Moss, Sasha Pivovarova, Anabela Belikova, and Charlotte Chesnais in designer duds like Balenciaga, Prada and Alexander McQueen.

Rivrain has sketched for John Galliano, Martine Sitbon, work for magazines like DazedTokion, and Numéo. Even though his first solo exhibit in Paris has just finished, I’m quite sure this will not be the last one.  Maybe he’ll use gauze next time.

No Holds Bar at Dior!

christian-diorRecession is the word of the season.  John Galliano took advantage of the brand he designs for and used Christian Dior’s New Look for the base of his collection.

diordior2Keep in mind we are talking about Galliano, the king of fantasy and exaggeration.  So let’s put some ruffles and bouncing hemlines with cross-laced corseted backs and cartridge-paper scrolls standing out on hips.  Ohh that’s not all.  Delftware embroideries peeking from the underskirts with soft blues and elaborate lace and tulip prints, what do you get?
