I Don’t Think So: Hermes Wants You To Ride With Your Jewels.

hermes-talaris-saddle01

Luxury brand Hermès, is going full force with their brand.  Forget their $6,000 birkin bags.  Last month they unveiled a high-tech modular saddle featuring a tree made of carbon and injected thermoplastic, blah blah blah, the saddle cost $9,100.   They didn’t stop there, keep the wallets open ladies.

For the price of about two and a half of the Hermès saddle, you can buy a pair of clip-on rose gold and black jade earrings, which cost $23,675.  Why get a pair of earrings when you can get a  diamond necklace for $880,000.  What do you get for spending so much on a piece of jewelry, a custom-made alligator box.  That’s the least they can do after you’ve spent enough to buy a mini mansion?

The Right Fashion Week Flame!

The fashion week torch which burned brightly in New York last week, has since been given to London allowing us to continue our droll fest and make our wish lists for Fall 2010 fashionable pieces even longer.

What did we take away from the city that sets the pace for the other fashion capitals around the world?

NYFW velvet dresses

Velvet Dreams: It will come in pants, leggings, jackets and dresses. Pairing your velvet piece with the right jacket and shoes prevents you from standing out in the wrong way.

fall shine on
Shine Sir Lot: Putting the shine in the clothes gives us a different version of bling that we can love and afford.

fall long dresses

Living A Longer Life: Maxi Dresses are back. But for the colder days, adding a sweater, jacket and boots makes them Fall friendly.

fall one shoulders

One Sided Focus: Try to keep on your good side will make you happier and sexier.

A new trend of watching fashion is “live Streaming.”  This allows designers, especially emerging ones to show their creations to the greatest audience out there, you! The hottest one was William Rast.

Fashion Week Statement Makers.

New York Fashion Week will be over soon, and we survived this first lap of the Fall 2010 collections even with all the snow and freezing tempertures.  From what I’ve seen, we’ve layer it up  pretty well and in our own unique way.  This is something that we do well with the right coat and boots, but what about accessories?  In this case ,bigger is better because you should have to stand out with what you wear around your necks along with the overcoats and hats.

Fashion Shows Recession Style.

Staying ahead and creating trends, isn’t that what fashion is all about? Well the latest trend that should have most people pleased is the new way to see the shows during fashion week.

The numbers have increased since last year for the amount of designers giving us immediate access by photographs online after a show and live streaming their collection(s).  This works great for some fashion editors who hate rushing to several shows in one day or others waiting for hours just to see a fashion preview that lasts less than 2o minutes.

William Rast is using the web to their advantage by “live streaming” their Fall 2010 show Wednesday 02/17/10 at 7pm.  Front row seat on the couch while wearing, what you want no complaints here!  Cutting cost anyway you can is smart.

For emerging fashion designers, spending money for a fashion show is a luxury they cannot afford.  Designers like Barbara Tfank, Chris Benz & Kimberly Ovitz gave us photos via Style.com, saving themselves thousands of dollars, and showing their creations to the consumers and fashion lovers directly.

new fashion shows

This form of showcasing one’s collections opens it up to a bigger audience which should help with marketing and sales.

When the creative wheels start turning, cyberspace is limitless!   Why not give us a fashion show longer than 20 minutes or a mini movie?

In a recession we creative people always have to think of ways to keep the fashion innovative, exciting, ongoing and the money flowing!!

No New York, Yea London.

new york spring10NYC is where the trends start, we’re suppose to give London, Milan and Paris reasons to get nervous and revamp their fashion collections because This City sets the bar high. I know we’re feeling the recession in NYC, but isn’t that a reason to step up and create pieces that will make us WANT to buy a dress that $500?

london spring A

Somehow New York based designers got lazy and gave us safe pieces that really didn’t have any “double take” factor to them.  Bright colors could barely be found and designers were being selfish with prints and daring silhouettes.  The bar was put down, giving London the responsibility of pushing it back up.

london spring B

It started with Duro Olowu and Erdem who hits you with prints and bright colors with makes you wish that you could buy their pieces now. My fashion high started and seeing Burberry Prorsum’s collection just made it tough to stop looking.  Draping a trench, “what the…”, my fashion brethren, you know what that is?!  New York was quickly forgotten and London’s designers showed us that their sleepy city should not be taken for granted.

Before the end of this week, we’ll see if Milan will keep this spring fix going and if Paris will finalize the trends we should look forward to.

Wizard of Oz…

With all the designer shoes for Fall being so unique and interesting, they’re more than just heels to walk in, lead roles are what they are, taking the attention away from the clothes.  So it was only right to cast them in of my favorite films.

Move over Fame,  The Wizard of Oz is back with the four  characters we love, and they each have their own signature looks. There is a little twist this time around though,  after seeking help from the wizard, each cast member gets a little more daring, a wilder side and new looks will be needed.

Not Just Clothes.

Most of us don’t need more clothes, we should have more than enough dresses and blouses to keep us covered for quite awhile, but we always want more don’t we?

Why not buy less clothes and acquire more accessories this spring?.  There is no denying that jewelry, shoes and handbags ruled the runways for Spring and Fall’09, so it will only be wise to take advantage of the creations given to us by the creative minds out there.  This week, I’ll showcase some of my favorites from Spring and what to look forward to from Fall’09.

Let start with my must have pieces that should work with most of the looks for Spring.

Ice Never Taste So Good.

I love it when Jewelry and Fashion Designers collborate to create unique, beautiful pieces that are only a few of us can get our hands on.  So when Baccarat,  Jean Paul Gaultier, and Evian decided to give us something new, of course who is going to refuse.

Evian Baccarat Jean Paul Gautier

With only five made worldwide, The New York Bottle has crystal bubbles gathering at the top and base.  If you didn’t get a glimpse of at Bergdorf Goodman’s Fifth Avenue windows last week, the glass water bottle is now at  Soho Grand then off to the Buddha Bar, before heading back home to Paris.

bubblesized1Hopefully this turns into a tradition. Last year Evian worked with Christian Lacroix to create a haute couture bottle.  Click here to view.

Through word of mouth.

I’ve been getting the word out about my business, telling friends, family and associates.  A couple of weeks ago I had dinner with Tiffany, former-coworker-turned-friend, who is also the mastermind of Dru New York.

After informing her of my business ideas and my website’s concept, she immediately told me about a jewelry designer, Eugene Huang, who would be a perfect potential vendor. I began researching her jewelry line, named Dekaray and was immediately sold.

Huang’s line boasts a collection of bold accessories that are not too flashy. At first glance I deemed it architectural art designed to grace the body. As such, it didn’t surprise me to later learn that she works for an architecture firm.

Dekaray is definitely on my wish list.
