NYC is where the trends start, we’re suppose to give London, Milan and Paris reasons to get nervous and revamp their fashion collections because This City sets the bar high. I know we’re feeling the recession in NYC, but isn’t that a reason to step up and create pieces that will make us WANT to buy a dress that $500?
Somehow New York based designers got lazy and gave us safe pieces that really didn’t have any “double take” factor to them. Bright colors could barely be found and designers were being selfish with prints and daring silhouettes. The bar was put down, giving London the responsibility of pushing it back up.
It started with Duro Olowu and Erdem who hits you with prints and bright colors with makes you wish that you could buy their pieces now. My fashion high started and seeing Burberry Prorsum’s collection just made it tough to stop looking. Draping a trench, “what the…”, my fashion brethren, you know what that is?! New York was quickly forgotten and London’s designers showed us that their sleepy city should not be taken for granted.
Before the end of this week, we’ll see if Milan will keep this spring fix going and if Paris will finalize the trends we should look forward to.
This was tough to do, after seeing most of the Fall’09 collections how do I go about picking one accessory collection that stood out above the rest??? Yea, a tough job that I was NOT willing to do. So I found my own solution, the more I love the collection, the more pieces I feature.
The city that never sleeps, will be first up.
I Wish I May, I Wish I Might, count the Marc Jacobs I receive tonight…or any other night in the future!!!
It seems as though each designer wanted to make more of a statement using the shoes in their collection than the clothes this coming spring.
Giambattista Valli gave us a new form of platform and sexy pumps rolled up into one, that had to be over 5 inches high. ”Pile it on,” was what the heels for Louis Vuitton would say, if they can speak. Dolce & Gabbana created training heels for us this Spring and Prada and Marni wanted us to wear socks or tights with their creations. With the economy being the way it is right now, designers couldn’t hold back, they had to give us more than the clothes to chose from.
We get more wear out of our shoes, than clothes anyway, so when you buy one of the unique pair of shoes from your favorite designer this spring, know this, you’ll be walking in a pair of art pieces.
