  • Take A Little Off The Top.

Viktor and Rolf took this recession cutting back thing literally.

Only the brave and fashion forward can pull off any of the looks from Viktor & Rolf  Spring’10 collection.  Doing “The Simple Thing” is not what Viktor & Rolf are known for, season after season they give us something besides safe.

  • Fashionable Art.

Click on each image above to purchase from Amazon.com Enjoy!

Fashionable Art can mean different things to several people. It can be the clothes one wears, the shoes we walk in or the accessories used to complete an outfit. What about taking fashion and making it something we can put onto our walls. If some of us could, we would take fashion magazine pages and frame them. That may lack some class though. Alternatives you ask for, Illustrations and graphic design are some. Illustrators like Andy Warhol, Julie Verhoeven, Jean-Philippe Delhomme, Renaldo Barnette and Michael Roberts have used fashion to showcase their visions and talents with colors and shapes. They are just a few of the many artists that allows us to put Fashionable Art on our walls.

  • Happy New Year. Year Two Here We Come!

TheRomeoReport.com is ready for 2010 . To start things off right, I needed something that would pop for my first art project in this new year. I found an image that I was able to sketch from and create at least 12 different versions. The same thing was done for my first art project of 2009, TheRomeoReport: Issue 19, this could become a tradition, let’s see what I can come up with for the next 12 months. Enjoy!

  • Thank you Liya.

    Elle Italia
I can honestly say, its been over a year since I opened a fashion magazine I got excited about a story that was created with the clothes. the model(s) and photographer. I actually didn’t renew my subscriptions and stopped buying my British magazines every month. For awhile I wondered, would the giddy feeling be back???

All praise Liya, Liya, Liya Kebede.
Couture, tulle, ruffles, silk and rollerblades. Not what you’ll expected to be worn together. but the gorgeous Liya Kebede and the photographer with the magic touch Alexei Hay, made it work. This fashion spread was created for January’s Elle Italia. Maybe the Italians can get me inspired again, gotta love them. Step it up American Vogue.

  • Patty Cake!

Whenever you see a Christian Dior or John Galliano fashion show, the makeup gets as much attention as the clothes within the show. You can’t help but wonder, how long it took to get that makeup on and who is the mastermind or maybe the loony behind it?

Pat McGarth, a former textiles student from London, managed to make a career out of all her passions, art, makeup, and fashion without attending one makeup school for formal training.  When you love what you do, you don’t mind putting in the time, and Pat should be the poster child for this.

    mcgarth

Her usual clients at least twice a year are Viktor & Rolf, Hussein Chalayan, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior and Armani.  With clients who’s interests varies each year, with each season, it takes a truly talented makeup artist to see the designers’ vision and help tell their stories. No surprise beauty brands like Giorgio Armani, Max Factor, and Cover Girl trust her to develope their cosmetics.

Just like her designer clients, McGarth is always searching for inspiration, and since she is always traveling, everything goes with her, six bags filled with books, photographs, tomes of various subjects. Another six industrial duffel bags are usually loaded with make-up. It’s only right that Pat McGarth, who is the one of the most important woman in fashion, get to travel this way.

  • No New York, Yea London.

new york spring10NYC is where the trends start, we’re suppose to give London, Milan and Paris reasons to get nervous and revamp their fashion collections because This City sets the bar high. I know we’re feeling the recession in NYC, but isn’t that a reason to step up and create pieces that will make us WANT to buy a dress that $500?

    london spring A

Somehow New York based designers got lazy and gave us safe pieces that really didn’t have any “double take” factor to them.  Bright colors could barely be found and designers were being selfish with prints and daring silhouettes.  The bar was put down, giving London the responsibility of pushing it back up.

    london spring B

It started with Duro Olowu and Erdem who hits you with prints and bright colors with makes you wish that you could buy their pieces now. My fashion high started and seeing Burberry Prorsum’s collection just made it tough to stop looking.  Draping a trench, “what the…”, my fashion brethren, you know what that is?!  New York was quickly forgotten and London’s designers showed us that their sleepy city should not be taken for granted.

Before the end of this week, we’ll see if Milan will keep this spring fix going and if Paris will finalize the trends we should look forward to.

  • Wizard of Oz…

With all the designer shoes for Fall being so unique and interesting, they’re more than just heels to walk in, lead roles are what they are, taking the attention away from the clothes.  So it was only right to cast them in of my favorite films.

Move over Fame,  The Wizard of Oz is back with the four  characters we love, and they each have their own signature looks. There is a little twist this time around though,  after seeking help from the wizard, each cast member gets a little more daring, a wilder side and new looks will be needed.

  • I Don't Think So: I'll Pass on The Hip Action

We’re already halfway through New York Fashion Week for Spring ‘10 and  the trends are started to make their presence know to us from the talented designers,  but there is one in particular, I hope doesn’t become a hit.

For most of us, bringing attention to our hips is a big no no, so I don’t  understand why Preen would make pieces like this for women to wear?

    Preen Spring 10 Preen SPring 10 a

We understand that some designers are always thinking outside the box, and they want their garments to be forms of walking art, but at the same time,  shouldn’t these pieces of art be pleasing to the consumer?

As much as we glamorize fashion, most importantly it is a business.  You have to be able to sell your products and if the people don’t like your art, no money is made…. you can guess where this goes.

This is a true example where the artist/designer forgets how to make the creations and his/her business side merge to make a happy home.

Designers of today, tomorrow and next week, you only get about 15 minutes to sell the creations you’ve slaved over for  months and spent thousands of dollars on, don’t waste a minute on something that most likely will not sell, especially in these economic times. Know your customer and make sure she feels great in your clothes, not wondering about if she is a hippy one.

  • The Last To Past the Finish Line.

tommyI remember when Tommy Hilfiger was the first to show his collections and kick off Fashion week. Now with years of experience and exceptional collections under his belt; millions of followers including celebrities, Tommy Man has moved from the starter to the  ”Last To Show” spot, during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.

To make things better, he’s throwing a little cocktail party for his new, very big Fifth Avenue flagship store. This is the only event where been last, is a good thing.

  • It's So Hard To Say Goodbye.

Fall is creeping behind summer, and pretty soon we’ll have to start wearing more clothes besides the summer dresses and strappy sandals we  love so much.

    spring to fall 1

For Fall, some designers are making the transition process a bit easier ,by keeping the details used for the spring/summer pieces and incorporating them into the must-haves for next season.

Studs, Fringe, Braided Leather and Suede, are some of the details that will be here for the cold months ahead.  See what some designers came up with to make us happy ladies for Fall/Winter!
