All the objects that our dogs love chewing on, have come back to haunt them.  Buttons, broken toys, clothes pegs, plus other recycled plastic items – on wood.  All of these materials are used by UK-based artist Robert Bradford to create  these colorful puppy sculptures.

  • Everything Will Fit, Everything!

    sarah-williams-4

Sarah Williams, a graduate student from London College of Fashion, decided that her MA project will be somewhat of a space saver for all corners and every angle.  The project untitled “Crafted Fashion” is a beautifully, innovatively designed luggage collection that goes against the grain.

  • Attending The Fashion Trade Show Coterie.

As a fashion buyer you want more than just watching the models walk up and down the runways. The buyers need to touch the clothes, they need prices, fabrics used, etc. The sooner that information is available to them the better they can tell their fashion stories to the customers.

This is where trade shows come in, Coterie to be specific. For the buyers, fashion editors, and students that couldn’t attend the fashion shows, the trade show gives them up close and personal access without the glitz and glamour.

After fashion week the serious work begins for the designers and buyers.

This video shows you what a visit to Coterie can be. My co-worker, Isidoro, and myself  spent last Monday morning getting a glimpse of what our favorite designers created, visited old friends and previewed what we’ll be wearing come next fall!

I would say it was a morning well spent!

Besides the clothes and jewelry that help define your style, what about some of us that want to add a little more with an accessory on our heads.

Not just something with a brim, but a piece that is custom made for your head, or a style of hat that needs it’s own seat!  A hat can make more of a statement than everything else you’re wearing and thanks to milliners like  Nasir Mazhar, Philip Treacy and Justin Smith they keeps your eyes up, way up.

  • The Right Fashion Week Flame!

The fashion week torch which burned brightly in New York last week, has since been given to London allowing us to continue our droll fest and make our wish lists for Fall 2010 fashionable pieces even longer.

What did we take away from the city that sets the pace for the other fashion capitals around the world?

    NYFW velvet dresses

Velvet Dreams: It will come in pants, leggings, jackets and dresses. Pairing your velvet piece with the right jacket and shoes prevents you from standing out in the wrong way.

    fall shine on
Shine Sir Lot: Putting the shine in the clothes gives us a different version of bling that we can love and afford.

    fall long dresses

Living A Longer Life: Maxi Dresses are back. But for the colder days, adding a sweater, jacket and boots makes them Fall friendly.

    fall one shoulders

One Sided Focus: Try to keep on your good side will make you happier and sexier.

A new trend of watching fashion is “live Streaming.”  This allows designers, especially emerging ones to show their creations to the greatest audience out there, you! The hottest one was William Rast.

    Take it away London!

  • Fashion Week Statement Makers.

New York Fashion Week will be over soon, and we survived this first lap of the Fall 2010 collections even with all the snow and freezing tempertures.  From what I’ve seen, we’ve layer it up  pretty well and in our own unique way.  This is something that we do well with the right coat and boots, but what about accessories?  In this case ,bigger is better because you should have to stand out with what you wear around your necks along with the overcoats and hats.

  • Fashion Shows Recession Style.

Staying ahead and creating trends, isn’t that what fashion is all about? Well the latest trend that should have most people pleased is the new way to see the shows during fashion week.

The numbers have increased since last year for the amount of designers giving us immediate access by photographs online after a show and live streaming their collection(s).  This works great for some fashion editors who hate rushing to several shows in one day or others waiting for hours just to see a fashion preview that lasts less than 2o minutes.

    William Rast

William Rast Fall 2010 Show Sign Up Page

William Rast is using the web to their advantage by “live streaming” their Fall 2010 show Wednesday 02/17/10 at 7pm.  Front row seat on the couch while wearing, what you want no complaints here!  Cutting cost anyway you can is smart.

For emerging fashion designers, spending money for a fashion show is a luxury they cannot afford.  Designers like Barbara Tfank, Chris Benz & Kimberly Ovitz gave us photos via Style.com, saving themselves thousands of dollars, and showing their creations to the consumers and fashion lovers directly.

    new fashion shows

This form of showcasing one’s collections opens it up to a bigger audience which should help with marketing and sales.

When the creative wheels start turning, cyberspace is limitless!   Why not give us a fashion show longer than 20 minutes or a mini movie?

In a recession we creative people always have to think of ways to keep the fashion innovative, exciting, ongoing and the money flowing!!
